Na de val met Ur in 2004 v.Chr. kan zijn het niet zo overduidelijk wat er met de plaats gebeurd kan zijn. Urbel, zoals de plaats in welke tijd genoemd werd, kan geoorloofd enige tijd zijn onafhankelijkheid gehandhaafd beschikken over. Onder het rijk aangaande Šamši-Adad viel het geoorloofd in het begin onder Qabra. Die stad kan zijn mogelijkerwijs met Tell Baqrta gelijk te stellen, zo'n 28 km zuidzuidwestelijk.
In deze onafhankelijkheidsstrijd bestaan de Koerden dit ook niet altijd met elkaar eens, regelmatig strijden ze namelijk tevens anti elkander. Onder andere in de jaren zeventig, wanneer een Iraakse Koerden in opstand komen anti hun president Saddam Hoessein, ze oplopen daarin hulp van de Perzische sjah. Een Iraanse Koerden voeren desalniettemin wederom ons worsteling tegen diezelfde sjah en krijgen daarbij juist weer steun aangaande Iraakse president Saddam.
Ook in 2014 werd de stad bedreigd en belegerd via troepen van ISIS. Militaire vliegtuigen van een Verenigde Staten bombardeerden in augustus 2014 de stellingen en artillerie aangaande die troepen.

Wanting to achieve more and climb the ladder ofwel success, I studied abroad for a Master’s degree in Urban Design at an international university.
